Discover how BMS and Aromatic Farm began their collaboration with paving blocks incorporating aromatic coconut waste—the first product we developed together to explore new uses for agricultural resources in construction materials.

Beginning with what remains on the farm

Once an aromatic coconut has been used, what else can its leftover husk and shell become?

That question formed part of the beginning of BMS and Aromatic Farm’s collaboration. We saw an opportunity to explore further uses for aromatic coconut waste, starting with paving blocks—the first product we developed together.

Looking back at the project in December 2025, this work marked an important connection between the farm’s resources and BMS’s material-development work.

Paving blocks: our first shared product

We began developing paving blocks that incorporate coconut-derived recovered material as part of their mixture, exploring how agricultural resources could contribute to construction products.

For BMS, the project offered an opportunity to work with materials connected to their source and learn how those resources could be developed for a different use.

The paving block became both our first shared creation and a starting point for learning that would inform further ideas.

Bringing the farm and material development together

Aromatic Farm was an important partner in connecting the project with the context of aromatic coconut farming. It also provided the setting and inspiration for exploring new possibilities for leftover materials.

BMS contributed its material-development knowledge. Together, we could consider the resources from several perspectives: where they came from, how they might be processed, and how they could be incorporated into a new product.

Materials remaining from one process became the starting point for exploring another use.

Exploring circularity through a physical product

The paving block represents one way we began putting circular economy thinking into practice: incorporating recovered material into a new product.

This development requires consideration of the mixture, production process, and properties needed for its intended use. When discussing environmental impact, we also place importance on verifiable information relevant to the specific product or project.

We see this work as the beginning of an ongoing development process—refining materials and applications while gathering the information needed to communicate their value more clearly.

From paving blocks to further possibilities

Today, BMS continues to explore uses for aromatic coconut waste, from construction materials to everyday creations such as Hypertufa, Aroma Candle, Aroma Stone, and Aroma Sachet.

Each product has its own formulation, process, and purpose. They share a starting idea: finding new roles for resources that remain after their initial use.

We thank Aromatic Farm for the collaboration and inspiration behind the paving block, our first product developed together.
