BMS and Aromatic Farm BCG are participating in the working group developing draft Product Category Rules (PCR) for assessing the carbon footprint of biochar products made from agricultural residues. The Department of Agriculture chairs the working group, with MTEC/NSTDA contributing to the work and serving as its secretariat.

BMS – Build Matter Solution and Aromatic Farm BCG are participating in the working group developing draft Product Category Rules (PCR) for assessing the carbon footprint of biochar products made from agricultural residues.

The working group is chaired by the Department of Agriculture. The National Metal and Materials Technology Center (MTEC), under the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), contributes to the work and serves as the secretariat. Representatives from industry, government and the private sector are contributing to discussions and the drafting process.

PCR provide product-category-specific requirements that support a consistent approach to carbon footprint assessment. Developing these draft requirements is part of establishing an appropriate foundation for the data and assessment methods used for biochar products.

For BMS and Aromatic Farm BCG, creating value from agricultural residues should go hand in hand with a systematic understanding of environmental impacts. Participation in the working group provides an opportunity for both organisations to contribute perspectives from practical work and exchange knowledge with relevant agencies and businesses.

This involvement connects with our Waste to Worth approach, from finding new uses for aromatic coconut residues to developing materials and products. We recognise the importance of supporting data for environmental assessment and responsible communication about product value.

BMS and Aromatic Farm BCG thank the Department of Agriculture, MTEC/NSTDA and all participating organisations for their contributions and knowledge sharing. We look forward to continuing this collaborative work.
